Steel City Division


The Steel City Division (SCD) is part of the Southeastern Region (SER) of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). The NMRA is the largest organization devoted to the development, promotion, and enjoyment of the hobby of model railroading. The Division serves the Birmingham and Central Alabama area which includes the following 19 counties: Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Cullman, Fayette, Green, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Randolph, St. Clair, Shelby, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston. Steel City Division

The Division has over 100 members who represent a very diverse group of modelers from all walks of life. The SCD publishes a newsletter called The Coupler and holds regular meetings. 


Two of our members are Committee Chairs in the SER. Several members have held offices at the NMRA national level. There are currently two Master Model Railroaders (MMR) in the Division.

For a step back in time, please read this article written by Mr Jim Gibson of Birmingham in 1981 for the SouthErneR Magazine. The article was re-published in tha Fall 2010 edition following his passing. Mr. Gibson was one of the founders of the SER and was a highly respected leader in the model railroading community.
