How do I get rid of chipmunks that keep digging up the ballast of my model railroad?

- There is only one solution to a chipmunk problem and that is to eliminate them. These things breed like crazy and will create havoc if Left unchecked. The easiest way to control them is to have a cat or luck out and have a neighbor that owns one. If not a pellet gun or better yet a .22 cal with a bird shot type shell does a wonderful job (check local ordinances on firearm laws if unsure). I know they are cute and all but when push comes to shove they have to go. I have used the .22 solution at my vacation home and it worked wonders. I tried to find a bait or poison to use but all the websites I looked at said the best solution is to shoot them. I wish you luck
- Killing them won't get rid of them because there are always young chippies looking for a new home. Best advice, get a cat or a coyote and take down any bird feeders. You can try sprinkling urine on the ballast or use one of the zoo-doo products.
