How do I install a digital decoder in a marklin model locomotive? Marklin in Germany make AC (alternating current) 3 rail model trains. Electronics now play a big part of model railways and these locomotives have and can have tiny PCB's (printed circuit boards) known as decoders installed in them. The AC decoders for marklin do not come with a plug and socket like DC trains, - I would like to know how to A. test a faulty decoder and change a faulty decoder over and B. Install a decoder into a model that does not yet have one. if there is demo I can download that would be perfect?
How hard do locomotives pull? An important measure of the performance of a locomotive is its "adhesion", which is the locomotives pulling force as a multiple of its weight. The adhesion of one 4400-horsepower diesel locomotive model varies in actual use according to a normal distribution with mean=0.37 and standard deviation=0.04. a) what proportion of adhesions measured in use are higher than 0.40? b) What proportion of adhesions are between 0.40 and 0.50?
What is the best way to strip paint off of a brass HO scale model train locomotive? I recently aqcuired some brass HO scale engines. I have never had brass, and the paint schemes that the previous owner had do not match my era. How do I strip the paint effectively without obviously damaging anything? Thanks! Now, is there anything that I can use to dip the shells with? There are alot of small detail pieces, and rubbing them is not going to work as the small parts will most likely break or bend. I do not know what kind of paint it is either. I would think that there has got to be something that I can use just to dip the shells??
What is the best DCC system for a small 00 gauge model railway layout.? I am building a small model railway layout, about 12 inches wide x 12 foot long with another 6 foot of fiddle yard/storage sidings. It is modern image, with at most three locomotives being used at once, two parked one operational. Maybe a double header occasionally. Fancy Gaugemaster Prodigy, but maybe a bit too expensive for such a small layout. Want to have sound eventually, so number of functions important.

What type of horns do German trains use? I'm doing some models for train simulator, and i need to know what type of horn to put on the locomotives. They are the Deutsche Bahn Class 101 and the Deutsche Bahn Class 185.

Help with statistics? Can anyone help me with these please?????? AN important measure of the performance of a locomotive is its "adhesion", which is the locomotives pu.ling force as a multiple of its weight. The adhesion of one 4400-horsepower diesel locomotive model varies in actual use accordint to a Normal distribution with mean = .37 and standard deviation =.04/ A. Help with Statistics homework, please!? I need help with the following question: An important measure of the performance of a locomotive is its "adhesion," which is the locomotive's pulling force as a multiple of its weight. The adhesion of one 4400-horsepower diesel locomotive model varies in actual use according to a Normal distribution with mean µ=.41 and standard deviation σ=.02. (a)what proportion of adhesions measured in use are higher than .40? (b)What proportion of adhesions are between .40 and .50? I don't know how to do this problem! I think I may have the answer for (a), I got 69.5% but I don't know if it's right or now. Details on how to get the answer would be great! Thanks!
What scale model railroad cars do I have? Is this N scale? I've seen answers to questions above that give info like below, but I have no way of comparing. The box car I have is just under 5 7/8" long and the"box" part itself is just over 1 1/4" (not including wheels). I found the track measurements confusing, as I have no tracks. If I measure INSIDE the wheels, it's1/2", If I measure the outer side, it's 3.4". Is this an N scale?? ********************************************** Z Scale - Trains built to a ratio of 1:220. A 75-foot long locomotive measures 4 inches long. The rails of the track are 6.5 mm apart. N Scale - Trains built to a ratio of 1:160. A 75-foot long locomotive is 5 ½ inches long. The rails of the track are spaced 9 mm apart. HO Scale - Trains built to a ratio of 1:87. A 75-foot long locomotive is 10 ½ inches long. The rails of the track are 7/8 inches apart.
more physics help!! 2 momentum problems? QUESTION: Imagine a 505 g hockey puck is shot from Mario Lemiuex toward a 75 kg goalie at 48 m/s. If the goalie catches the puck and makes the save, what is the velocity of the goalie and the puck together after the puck is caught? ( is this elastic or inelastic ) ANSWER: .32 m/s rounded. I know the answer because the teacher told us. (i just dont know how to solve it, please show procedure! thanx!) QUESTION: A 0.20 Kg model railroad car moves with a speed of 0.24 m/s is struck from behind by an 0.42 kg model locomotive moving along the same line with a speed of 0.52 m/s. If they stick together after the collision, what is their velocity? ( is this elastic or inelastic ) ANSWER: .43 <-- from the teacher ( i dont know how to solve this either, please show procedure!) thanx i really appreciate this!
math help? Hey if anyone could please help me with this problem I would really appreciate it :) I really need to get this right! Thanks! :) In the early 1940s, the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) developed the Big Boy, a locomotive that was 40 meters long. Its drive wheels were 2 meters in diameter. An HO scale model of this locomotive is 18 inches long. In inches, what is the approximate diameter of the model's drive wheel, expressed as a decimal to the nearest tenth?
Australian railroad question.? What is the manufacturer and model number of the diesel locomotives that pull the Great Southern Railway luxury express, "The Ghan? The cabs are different, but other wise they look like General Electric locomotives used in North America.
train/ locomotive enthusiasts? or not....? i'm working on an architectural project currently, and would really like to know what u would expect to see in a good locomotive museum? apart from the obvious live scale models or photographs??? i want this place to be kids and family friendly too, not just for train enthusiasts? all opinions would be greatly appreiated
Homework help please!!!!! 2 questions? 2 questions 1. One or the most popular sizes of model trains is called the HO. Every dimension of the HO model measures 1/87 times that of a real engine. The HO model of a modern diesel locomotive is about 8 inches long. About how many feet long is the real lovomotive? 2. The Modern Grocery has cashews that sell for $3.50 a pound and peanuts sell for $2.25 a pound. Write AND solve a system if equations in two variables to find how much of each the grocer should mix to get 50 pounds of mixture that he can sell for $3.00 per pound.

steam locomotives only model train layout? If you were to build a model train layout, would it be steam only?I personally don't care for diesel locomotives. They don't have all the neat sounds a steamer has.All you hear is a steady drone of a diesel engine.Steam, they have all kinds of chuffs, chugs.I love the sound of a steamer taking off.It starts slow, then as it builds steam,it gets faster.I love steamers, and my layout will only have steam engines. That's the way railroads started, and that's the way they should be.

Model trains: How to convert analog 4-4-0 Southern Pacific loco to DCC?? Hi everyone, I have an HO scale analog 4-4-0 Southern Pacific locomotive that I would like to convert to DCC. I understand the basic electronics required for an encoder car behind the engine, but I keep hearing horror stories about people who build the encoder "by the book" but then have major vibration problems with the engine running at slow speeds or stopped. Has anyone out there come up with a good way to build an encoder that reduces or eliminates engine vibration? Thanks to all for taking the time to read this. Have a good day !!! Big Al Mintaka
